ABOUT OPEN PVR

Openview is proud to present its exclusive PVR (personal video recorder) capabilities with Open PVR, a first for the platform. Openview subscribers with the latest decoder models can now enjoy premium features on Openview with the innovative Open PVR capabilities.

Open PVR gives Openview viewers the chance to take total control of their television viewing. Viewers can now record their favourite shows and content, without being restricted to watching it at a specific time. Open PVR allows viewers to schedule recordings across a range of channels, through easy to use functionality, as well as pause live television for up to 15 minutes. Viewers will also be able to record one channel while watching another channel, making sure they don’t miss out on any of the action on their television screens.

Open PVR is an easy to use functional USB stick that can be inserted into the NA9200 Openview decoder model. Once installed, viewers can sit back and schedule all their recordings throughout the day. The Open PVR USB sticks are available in two sizes: 32GB, which can record up to 8 hours of HD content, and 64GB, which can record up to 18 hours HD content. If viewers miss a moment of their recorded content, they can rewind immediately to catch up.

Open PVR is compatible with the NA9200 Openview decoder, and available at PEP and Dion Wired stores across South Africa. The DSD4165 Openview model capabilities will be available soon. More information will be announced in due course.

CONNECTING

If you already have a satellite dish and would like to install and activate your decoder, please follow the following steps:

1. To connect your decoder to the satellite dish, you will need to connect the LNB cable from your satellite dish to the LNB IN, RF IN or DISH IN slot at the back of your decoder.

2. There are three ways to connect your decoder to your TV, depending on your TV and decoder: you can use an RCA cable, an AV composite cable OR an HDMI cable.

RCA Cable
If you are using an RCA cable connect the cables to the back of your decoder – matching the colours of the jacks to the colours of the ports (red to red, white to white and yellow to yellow). Then, connect the other end of the cable to your TV. Make sure you are plugging them into the ports that are marked INPUT. Again, match the colours of the jacks to the colour of the ports (red to red, white to white and yellow to yellow). If your TV does not have coloured ports, then plug the jacks in accordingly: yellow into VIDEO IN, white into AUDIO IN (L) and red into AUDIO IN (R) – if available.

AV Composite Cable
If you are using an AV composite cable, plug the single jack into the back of your decoder. Then, connect the other end of the cable to your TV. Make sure you are plugging them into the ports that are marked INPUT. Match the colours of the jacks to the colour of the ports (red to red, white to white and yellow to yellow). If your TV does not have coloured ports, then plug the jacks in accordingly: yellow into VIDEO IN, white into AUDIO IN (L) and red into AUDIO IN (R) – if available.

HDMI Cable
If you are using an HDMI cable, then plug it into the HDMI port on the back of your decoder and then plug the other end into an HDMI port on your TV.

You will then need to switch to the relevant HDMI or AV channel on your television.

3. To power your decoder, you will need to connect the power cable to the decoder and connect it to a power source. Your decoder should then switch on and start scanning.

4. Once scanning is complete you will see channel 100.

Your decoder is now ready to be activated.

For further help with your installation WhatsApp 082 966 6429 or call the Openview Call Centre 0861 696 843.

Once your decoder has been installed and completed scanning you will need to activate it.

If you have no channels, press the HELP button on your Openview remote to check your signal strength and quality levels. These levels can be found at the bottom of the help screen.

The strength and quality levels need to be above 85% in order for you to enjoy uninterrupted viewing. If the signal strength and quality still appear as 0%, then follow the steps on page 16 or 18 of your decoder’s user manual to do a factory reset so the device can be reset to its original settings. (This step is not necessary for brand new decoders, as they will still be on the factory settings).

DISH INSTALLATION PROBLEMS?

Even though DStv and Openview use the same IS20 Satellite, they use different transponders/frequencies. To receive the Openview signal the dish needs to be turned to 68.5 degrees in a northeasterly direction. An installer may need to reposition your dish. Please note installers operate independently and charge extra for their services.

BAD WEATHER?

When it rains in the uplink or downlink regions, there may be signal problems due to a phenomenon called rain fade. This is when the signal is being absorbed by moisture in the air. In this instance, viewers who have lost their Openview signal are advised wait for a day or two before contacting an installer. Please note installers operate independently and charge extra for their services.

For further help WhatsApp 082 966 6429 or call the Openview Call Centre 0861 696 843.

INSTALLATIONS

Openview is South Africa’s first free-to-air satellite television service. To enjoy unlimited free entertainment with Openview, you will need a television, a satellite dish and an Openview set-top box.

1. NO SATELITE DISH OR OPENVIEW SET-TOP BOX?

The easiest way to get Openview is to purchase your set-top box with an installation voucher. You can buy a set-top box with an installation voucher at Game, Checkers Hyper or Dion Wired.

Once you have bought your set-top box with an installation voucher, call the number on the voucher to set up an appointment with an accredited installer. The installer will visit you at a convenient time at your home or location where you want to install a dish and complete your set-top box’s installation and activation.

2. GOT A SATELLITE DISH BUT NOT THE OPENVIEW SET-TOP BOX?

If you have an existing satellite dish facing North East, you will just need to purchase and install an Openview set-top box. Click here to find out how you can connect and then activate your Openview set-top box.

Please note that even though DStv and Openview use the same IS20 Satellite, they use different transponders/frequencies. To receive the Openview signal the dish needs to be turned to 68.5 degrees in a north-easterly direction. If you are struggling to receive a clear Openview signal, an installer may need to reposition your dish.

3. GOT THE OPENVIEW SET-TOP BOX BUT NOT THE DISH?

If you purchase an Openview set-top box without an installation voucher and do not have an existing satellite dish, you will need to contact an installer. Your installer
will supply and install a compatible satellite dish and assist you with installing and activating your set-top box.
